Yamai's Nerd Corner Empty Yamai's Nerd Corner

Post by Yamaihime Thu Feb 21, 2013 10:48 am

In a special documentary on Animal Planet, in commemoration of MONSTERS Week, a one-hour long documentary aired about something that we have known all along but did not believe . .until now o.o

http://press.discovery.com/ekits/monster-week-mermaids/press-release.html

The full documentary can be found here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbWVDk68BOI

In this documentary, scientists who were part of the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Research centre, were uncovering details about whale beachings that were occurring throughout the world in 2004-5. The scientific group uncovered that whale beachings were occuring because of Navy testing of Sonar weapons, killing the whales and dolphins that came into contact with the sonar blasts. In their investigation, they heard stories about humans being washed up with the whales.

Audio recordings of the sonar blast and the distressed calls of the whales were recorded, but upon closer inspection of the recording, they heard another animal cry, something complex that they had heard in another audio recording in 1977, which in the NOAA's 50 year history, had not been identified to any creature. This unknown sound was called " The Bloop".

While conducting research in Cape Town, South Africa, of similar audio recordings and whale beachings, the research team came across a fishery finding, a Great White Shark, which had been caught on the nets of local fisherman in the town. The fisherman suspected it had come to feast on the whale carcasses, but what was inside the shark intrigued scientists.

Around 30% of the original body remained, however the remains looked to be a cross of a seal and a dolphin but were neither. The shark itself had puncture wounds on it's skin, and what looked like the stingers of Sting Rays were embedded in the shark flesh. Previous recordings of fish caught in the open ocean, with what looked like spears in their sides have been reported countless times before. Sting Ray stingers are found on other fish and shark, but usually not Great White Sharks.

The scientific team autopsied the remains of the mystery creature and found that it's tail flipper had bones in them (not usually seen in seals and dolphins or even whales), the spleen was large and this was an indicator of a deep sea diving mammal, it's rib cage was collapsable and indicated that the creature could survive great pressure depths without collpasing its internal organs and suffocating itself at these depths, and also that its teeth were omnivorous teeth with incisors, molars and canines. No other sea creature has such teeth.

Upon inspection of its pelvis and phalangeal (what we call fingers or toes but what make up the flippers of marine mammals) bones, CT scanning showed that the animal's pelvis looked like an upright terrestrial animals' pelvis, or more like a human pelvis. After trying dozens of different arrangements with the phalangeal bones, the scientists tried the arrangment of a human hand and this was a perfect fit.

The scientists sent the bones of the creature's skull for forensic skull remodelling and what they found was a highly advanced and large brain cavity and audio capabalities, which explains what could be making the bloop signature on the audio recordings studied so far. A whale bone was also uncovered with the remains, that had been worked at by hand and had a crevice to place something on top of it. The Sting Ray barb found in the Great White Shark was a perfect fit on this whale bone.

These findings took years to be made public because of Naval interference and coverup of the numerous "bodies" that had washed up with the whales at beaching sites. Whenever the scientists were there to autopsy the whales, the Navy had been there before, had not touched the whales, but had clearly taken something away from the scene. The scientific work in this documentary was confiscated and the only evidence of these creatures' existence were "The Bloop" recordings.

Fact or Fiction?

You decide.

(I sound like such a reporter Very Happy)

you totally sound like a reporter there, Yamai Smile. The documentary sounds interesting but it's late here so I'll probably watch it tomorrow when I'll get back home.

also the sonar weapons testings reminded me of a Smallville episode Very Happy

So far, of what I have seen, if this is true, I can see why it would be covered up...could cause a lot of trouble...

It will probably never happen for me Laughing
If they doexist and are to remain hidden, I am scared of the sea and that is where they are so....Yamai will have to tell me all about it :P

N, but seriously now xD
From press release,

ERMAIDS: THE BODY FOUND makes a strong case for the existence of the mermaid, a creature with a surprisingly human evolutionary history, whose ancestral branch splits off from a shared human root. The film is science fiction, using science as a springboard into imagination and centering the story on the following real-world events:

In the early 1990s, the US Navy began a series of covert sonar tests, which were linked to mass die-offs of whales, which washed up on beaches throughout the world. For years, the Navy denied they were responsible for these beachings.
In 1997, scientists at the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recorded a mysterious sound (called “The Bloop”) in the deep Pacific, which was thought to be organic in nature. It has never been identified.
These are facts.

I think those are the only facts there?xD

Like that time I watched the Dragons documentary c:
It was fun and awesome, but all a what if xD

But with the majority of the sea not explored...still, I think those were the only facts there :'D

That much is true but I wonder, why would anyone waste time and make up scientific evidence on a new creature, it's autopsy and the biological findings that link it to being of the same evolutionary line as humans and air it on a tv channel such as Discovery/Animal planet?

It's interesting as a myth and all, but being a scientist in training and understanding the politics behind our work and us being able to present that work, I can't help but feel a lot of things (not just Area 51) are being covered up from the public by the Government.

^ITs monster week, for entertainment, or getting people into mermaids, same reason they made the dragon one...

That they are might be true, but there is also a lot of things that are better left hidden. They are hidden for a reason....
