Yes he is very serious. He needs to mellow out. He doesn't smile much normally, kind of like erza but she atleast she can joke around. So yea he needs to show us more of that beautiful smile.
I feel he looks more hotter with a shirt on rather than shirtless.

Given the criteria you gave out, You must like the edolas version of his xd.

Well the character just doesn't appeal me, I like Jellal who's pretty serious too (and he's depressed, which I usually like even less)... But he is more appealing physically with his shirt on
Actually I like Lucy, she's cute and I like 'normal' character...That and I don't notice fanservice usually. To me Gray's fanservice is not appealing because he himself is pretty transparent
